Google vs. Online Marketers

Google and online marketers are constantly in a cat-and-mouse game. Google tries to make search results uninfluenceable, while marketers try to figure out tricks to influence the search results. With new algorithm updates, the search engine giant excludes the latest SEO techniques. However, marketers continue to analyze new updates and come up with new ways to apply SEO.

How Can I Rank in Google?

Quality Backlink

First, it’s important to know that Google analyzes backlinks for their naturalness. For example, a homepage specifically set up to place backlinks is unnatural and very transparent. It’s much better to approach a real blogger who writes a review about your product. This way, Google is more likely to assume that the blogger is making a recommendation to their audience, and that the backlink is not primarily intended to influence search results. To get in touch with bloggers, you can create a campaign on Hulc without obligation!

Google Penalty

Google continuously works on its algorithm and tries to recognize how good and relevant the content is. Currently, the algorithm is so smart that good content is a must, both on-page and off-page. If this is not the case, you might be punished with a penalty. Such a penalty means your website will no longer be displayed in the search results, so you should definitely avoid this!

Creating an SEO Plan

Determining Campaign Goals

Before starting with link building, it’s wise to consider what the goals of your campaign are. It’s advisable to map out the feasibility. Possible goals that can be achieved with link building are:

  1. Improve rankings for keyword X
  2. Obtain higher (sub)domain authority
  3. Generate direct traffic from the linking domain
  4. Gain exposure to a specific target audience

Value of Backlink

After establishing the campaign goals, it’s important to determine which SEO values contribute to these. It’s crucial to give a realistic score per variable. This allows you to assign a value to potential backlinks and thus choose the best ones. For example, if I want to achieve goal 1: improve rankings for keyword X.

Then I choose the biggest influencing factors from the following values:

  1. Domain Authority
  2. Page Authority
  3. Trust Flow
  4. Citation Flow
  5. Anchor Text
  6. Traffic
  7. Content Relevance
  8. (No-)follow Link

Explanation of Backlink Values

Domain Authority:

Domain Authority predicts how well a website will perform in search results. The score ranges from 0-100.

Page Authority:

Page Authority predicts how well a web page will rank in search results. The score ranges from 0-100.

Trust Flow:

Trust Flow is a score between 0-100 that shows how trustworthy the website is. It’s based on the quality of backlinks to a domain. With authoritative and trustworthy backlinks to a site, the trust flow will increase.

Citation Flow:

Citation Flow is a score between 0-100 that measures the Link Equity (or Link Juice) of a domain. This depends on the referring links. With more referring domains to a site, it will have more influence.

Anchor Text:

Anchor text is the visible text of a referring link.

Traffic:

The traffic of a website refers to the number of website visitors.

Content Relevance:

The relevance of the content determines how well the content aligns with your website and goals.

(No-)follow Link:

A follow link indicates that Google includes the link in assigning SEO values to a website. For paid links, in all their forms, it is advisable to make them no-follow. With paid follow links, it is possible that you may be subject to a penalty.

“Effective link building strategies require research, timing, location, public relations great content.”

Determining important link values

Let’s return to our example. My main goal is for my website to be found better for a specific keyword. Therefore, I attach the greatest value to: domain authority, trust flow, anchor texts, and follow links. In this example, it is important that I can influence the content of the publishing party. When working with Linkbait, the relevant factor anchor text cannot be influenced. For this reason, I search for relevant collaborations to achieve optimal results from link building.

Applying link building

After setting the goals and strategy, you can get started. Create a spreadsheet, alone or with colleagues, listing all interesting collaborations. Don’t forget to score the collaborations that align most with your goal. Once this document is filled, you can choose the most interesting backlinks. This way, link building in 2025 will bear fruit.

Summary

To apply link building effectively, it’s wise to think carefully about your strategy. Ensure you have clear goals in mind, and give each link a KPI that you can evaluate. Maintain a critical view and only choose the best collaborations to place a link. This way, you create a strong and future-proof link profile!
